James Thomas is a chartered quantity surveyor with over 25 years of experience in construction.
James has testified as quantum expert in The Technology and Construction Court. He has also been instructed on disputes in The Royal Court of Guernsey, The Lands Chamber Tribunal, The Administrative Planning Court and in The International Court of Arbitration.
He is regularly appointed on behalf of major insurance groups in terms of recovery actions, claim defence, and alternative dispute resolution. In this role he provides quantum opinion in relation to the policy as directed by adjusters.
He has been appointed as an independent quantum expert on over 150 occasions. This includes experience as a single joint expert. He is recommended as a “Global Leader” in Lexology. There he is referred to as “an extremely thorough expert who is able to produce clear reports and calculations” and a “standout construction expert.”
James has been appointed as quantum expert on projects in the UK, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. His breadth of clients is varied and includes major insurance groups, main contractors, major infrastructure joint ventures (JV), utility providers, local authorities, private developers, and professional services providers.
He has advised clients and their legal teams on a wide variety of projects within the public and private sectors. This has involved undertaking detailed complex quantum analyses, preparing estimates for expert reports, writing joint statements, and leading meetings with technical experts.
