Richard is an experienced chartered quantity surveyor, arbitrator and adjudicator. He has over 40 years of international experience advising the construction and insurance sectors. Richard’s expertise lies in quantum expert services. He is regularly appointed as an expert witness in complex disputes across the United Kingdom, the Middle East, and Europe.
Before specialising in expert services, Richard held senior roles with contractors, employers, and government bodies. There he gained hands-on experience across a wide range of construction projects. His broad industry knowledge underpins his credibility as a quantum expert. His experience also includes matters involving professional negligence.
Richard is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). He has been appointed by contractors, subcontractors, employers, and consultants. He has also given oral evidence in the Technology and Construction Court, before arbitral tribunals, and at planning inquiries.
As an adjudicator, Richard has served on the RICS and Technology and Construction Solicitors Association (TECSA) panels. In over 20 years sitting as an adjudicator, Richard has published over 200 decisions on construction disputes. These have included payment issues and professional fee claims.
Alongside his dispute resolution work, Richard contributes to the RICS Helpline Scheme. He provides impartial advice to the public on construction matters and dispute resolution options.
