This June, Senior Consultant, Conor Mc Gread is trekking 170km through France, Italy and Switzerland on the Tour du Mont Blanc. He’s aiming to raise money for Amurt, which supports people facing homelessness and food poverty.

Over 9 days, he’ll be climbing more than 10,000m (for context, Mount Everest is 8,850m), carrying all his gear, and camping along the way.

The charity supports homeless people, providing meals and support to vulnerable individuals in the UK and around the world.

AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team) is one of the few private international voluntary organizations, originally founded in India. Since its inception in 1965 its original objective was to help meet the needs of the affected population after disasters that regularly hit the Indian sub-continent.

AMURT now has established teams in thirty-four countries, to create a network that can meet disaster and development needs almost anywhere in the world. In 1985 the organisation broadened their goals to include long-term development.

The charity aims to play a useful role in helping vulnerable communities break the cycle of poverty and gain greater control over their lives. For AMURT, development is human exchange: people sharing wisdom, knowledge and experience to build a better world.
