Our congratulations to Helen Caudrey who has been accepted as a construction adjudicator on the RICS President’s Panel. This panel is widely regarded as one of the leading nominating bodies for construction adjudicators. Members of the panel are required to meet a range of stringent criteria and assessments before they can be nominated and accepted as members.
Criteria include:
- A professional qualification relating to your primary profession
- Minimum 10 years post-qualification experience in your primary profession
- Successful completion of the RICS Diploma in Construction Adjudication (or received a full exemption as per the RICS Diploma in Adjudication exemption policy)
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, and experience required to act as an adjudicator
- Understanding of the law relating to construction contracts
- Recent and ongoing active involvement in construction adjudication.
- Recognition in the market as an adjudicator and expert in the field.
- A full record of CPD, specifically related to professional practice and adjudication.
- Successful completion of the panel interview.
- Attendance at the post-interview Induction Session, including completion of the online RICS Professionalism Module and the Diversity and Inclusion e-learning
RICS nominates Construction Adjudicators under the provisions of the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, and also under contract. The majority of panel members are Chartered Surveyors. However, others are able to join the panel to enable RICS to make appropriate appointments.
The rigorous mentoring and induction process mean that only a limited number of candidates are appointed each year. The process involves a number of tests and the submission of peer-reviewed decisions along with lengthy one-to-one mentoring. There is a process of familiarisation training and a panel interview, as well as checks for experience and knowledge of both construction and law.
Sincere congratulations to Helen. Only a limited number of candidates make it through each round of applications and submissions must demonstrate they meet the criteria, and closely align with the Panel’s needs.
